Immunisations

Immunisations has saved and protected countless lives.  We work with parents to make sure your child is protected every step of the way. Our nurses are trained and skilled in the Childhood Immunisations Schedule..  We record immunisations in the practice, on the National Australian Childhood Immunisation Register and provide recalls to help you keep  you and your child safe on the immunisation track.  We keep up to date with the latest Department of Health Advisories and we put in place a quality and safety driven vaccine and immunisation program.

In order to keep the community safe from infectious diseases we must keep up the percentage of the community that is immunised.  We and our children are still at risk of measles, polio, chicken pox, mumps, rubella (German Measles), whooping cough, meningococcal disease and other infectious diseases. Floreat Medical takes particular care to deliver the right vaccine in the right environment, and talk to you about vaccinations.

We are here to help with those who made need to catch up on their immunisation status due to overseas transfer to Australia, a lapse in timing of immunisation or any other time when you or your family need help

Adult immunisations are very important to protect your own health and wellbeing, those around you in the environment you are working in and your families. Immunisation for influenza and rubella in pregnancy helps to protect the new born baby.

Skin checks

Your skin is the largest organ in your body. It is important to look after it and to watch it for any changes that might indicate a problem. If you have a family history of skin cancer this is particularly important.  Whether or not you have grown up in Australia or have had sun exposure, a regular skin check is always valuable. If you have any concerns about any skin bump, mole, beauty spot or freckle then  please make an appointment for a skin check.

We can schedule regular skin checks to keep you closely monitored. Early detection is important and advice on prevention essential.

At Floreat Medical skin  our doctors conduct skin assessments and may use scanning and imaging.. The condition of the skin is meticulously studied.. We  look for cancer-related concerns, psoriasis, eczema, impetigo and other skin-related conditions that need immediate and/or long-term medical attention.

We have minor theatre facilities and removal of skin lesions can occur at Floreat Medical for your convenience by our experienced and highly skilled doctors.

Cancer risk assessments

The incidence of varying types of cancer is still rising in the population. Healthy life style is important and Cancer risk assessments are essential. If you have a  family history of any cancer come and talk to us about your risk and appropriate advice about any screening .  Our physicians will assess your family history and determine if your genetics play a role in this disease. We know that lifestyle factors, occupational exposures and family history can contribute to your risk of cancer. There is a great deal that can be done to reduce risk of some cancers, to be aware of any symptoms, to screen and detect a cancer early to maximise good outcomes.

Floreat Medical can put a plan in place for you and your particular needs with investigations and recalls as required.

We can refer you for genetic counselling and testing if appropriate to your family situation and we will discuss the findings with you and put in place any screening program you require.

As experts in our clinical field, the doctors and nurses at Floreat Medical keep abreast and stay ahead by continuously staying informed of health issues that arise at any time in our community.

We actively engage with and receive the latest alerts and bulletins from our professional bodies and the State and Federal Departments of Health and implement the information into our care of patients and the community.

Recent changes to Cervical Screening Testing (CST) now allow for self-collected sampling. CST is a simple test used to check the health of a woman’s cervix.

The CST looks for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection as HPV infections can cause abnormal cervical cell changes that may lead to cervical cancer. This usually takes a long time, about 10 to 15 years. Nearly all cervical cancers are caused by HPV. If you have had the HPV vaccine you will still need to participate in regular cervical screening. This is because the vaccine does not protect against all types of HPV that are known to cause cervical cancer.

In Australia women are advised to have a CST every 5 years.

From 1 July 2022, the National Cervical Screening Program (NCSP) has expanded screening test options, offering self-collection as a choice to all women participating in cervical screening. This means that all people with a cervix aged 25-74 years will have the option to screen using either a self-collected vaginal sample or a cervical smear sample taken by your doctor.

The NCSP are promoting these changes with the aim to maximise cervical screening participation, particularly among under-screened and never-screened women.

For an easy guide on how to collect your own vaginal sample for cervical screening see here.
